CH20 The Report On Unidentified Flying Objects by Edward J. Ruppelt

Here we go! The final chapter of Ruppelt's excellent report on UFOs. This chapter is a stark contrast to the rest of the book: it is totally skeptical. There are rumors that he was made to put this chapter in by the military to debunk UFOs. There are also rumors that the last three chapters were ghost written, and not actually written by Ruppelt. Whatever the case, here it is, the final chapter of the book.

The 1952 Washington D.C. UFO Incident

Why don't they just land on the White House Lawn and say "take me to your leader?" Well it turns out UFOs came pretty close in 1952. They didn't land, but they did fly over the nation's capitol. This happened over two weekends. But this wasn't just an isolated incident: there was a genuine flap that year, and UFOs were seen in record numbers all over the nation.

 

The military was in a panic. They couldn't identify or intercept these UFOs. Had they been hostile, we would have been completely at their mercy. What makes these sightings extraordinary is that they were seen on multiple radars; they were simultaneously seen by visual observers on the ground and the air; and they were seen by multiple independent witnesses.

CH19 The Report On Unidentified Flying Objects by Edward J. Ruppelt

The penultimate chapter! This time Eddy focuses on obvious hoaxes where witnesses claim to have met beings from another world. Some of these stories were difficult to read with a straight face. However in the larger context of the book, and the rumors that the military forced Ruppelt to add skeptical chapters, I have to wonder if chapter 19 is an attempt to bring the reader to a skeptical position.  

We had some technical difficulties, so the planned episode on the Washington DC event of 1952 is delayed a week. This sort chapter was a last minute replacement.
